Urinary tract infections are very common, especially in women, and are often a recurring problem. Most UTIs are caused by the E. coli bacteria. When bacteria enter the urinary tract they latch onto cells, grow, and cause infection. D-mannose is believed to promote protection against UTIs by stopping the bacteria from latching on. Cranberry provides additional support as it contains d-mannose and may also work by inhibiting the adhesion of bacteria.
Cinnamon may promote healthy levels of sugar in the blood, which is not filtered properly by the kidneys if it's too high. Regulating blood sugar levels alleviates some of the work done by the kidneys and helps keep them functioning properly. Overall, the prevention of urinary tract infections is also vital for kidney health. If not prevented or treated promptly, UTIs can travel up the ureter and into the kidneys, causing a much more serious infection called pyelonephritis.
