Benefits of Hot Water Bottles

• Relieves Muscle Pain

Muscle pain is often caused by stress, tension, overuse, and injury. It is also a symptom of fibromyalgia, a more serious condition that causes tenderness in the muscles and surrounding tissue. Muscle aches can vary in severity but can often limit one’s daily activities. Applying heat to the affected muscle widens blood vessels and increases blood flow, promoting the relief of strained or aching muscles. It is recommended to wait 48 hours before applying heat to muscle aches caused by an injury.

• Promotes Tension Headache Relief

Tension headaches are the most common type of headache and are often a result of stress. Tense muscles can also trigger a tension headache. Pain in the upper back, shoulders, and neck is often associated with tension headaches. Applying the hot water bottle on the upper part of your back/neck can help loosen tense muscles, promoting relief.

• Promotes Menstrual Cramp Relief

Heat has been used for decades as an at-home remedy for menstrual cramps. Menstrual cramps are common and can be very painful in some individuals. When applying heat to the abdomen or back, uterine contractions are relaxed, which results in less pain. The increase in blood flow using heat also helps relieve cramps.

• Promotes Ovarian Cyst Pain Relief

A pinching, painful sensation in your uterus or ovaries can be an indication of ovarian cysts. Ovarian cysts are fluid-filled sacs that usually go away on their own but may cause discomfort. Women who suffer from polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) develop many small cysts in their ovaries which can lead to reproductive complications. The use of heat can help ease cyst pain by promoting decreased inflammation and increased blood flow to the upper and lower back and abdomen.

• Supports Prostate Gland Health

Prostatitis is a condition that happens when the prostate gland is inflamed. It can also cause inflammation in the area surrounding the prostate gland. Heat therapy is often used to relieve prostate gland pain and discomfort as it increases blood flow to the area.
